Written by Tianna Faulkner on .

August 11, 2025 (Atlanta, GA) - The Georgia Council on Developmental Disabilities (GCDD) is looking for nominations for the 2025 Spirit of Kim Unsung Hero Award to recognize an individual who demonstrates selfless service to Georgia's intellectual/developmental disability (I/DD) community.

Kim Hudson Person, GCDD’s former Office Manager and Membership Coordinator, served at the agency for 19 years before her untimely passing in July of 2023.

Eligible nominees are employees, volunteers, self-advocates, family advocates, or anyone who demonstrates selfless service to Georgia's I/DD community. They will have made an impact, preferably behind-the-scenes, to advance GCDD’s mission to bring about social and policy changes that promote opportunities for the wide spectrum of diverse people/persons with developmental disabilities and their families to live, learn, work, play and worship in their communities.

“Kim worked diligently to make sure the staff had everything they needed to support GCDD’s great work helping people with developmental disabilities in Georgia,” said D’Arcy Robb, Executive Director for GCDD. “The Spirit of Kim award helps continue the legacy of the work she did through recognition of someone in the disability community who demonstrates Kim’s values of selflessness, service, and community.”

The second annual Spirit of Kim Award will be presented at GCDD’s fall Council meeting in Macon, GA. The GCDD staff and Council members will forever be grateful to Person and her years of service to the organization and to the state of Georgia. Nominations are being accepted through September 5, 2025.

She is survived by her husband Curt, son Donovan, and countless other friends and family. For more information, visit www.gcdd.org.
