ARTS CENTER: Artoberfest — A community cultural celebration

By

Many of you will remember when the Arts Center used to host the Annual Festival on the Square each April. When resources were no longer available we had to close the books on that wonderful community event. The staff and board of the Arts Center are taking baby steps to create a new fabulous celebration of the cultures that make up our community through ARTOBERFEST!

Artoberfest is made possible this year by a group of local dentists in our community including: Dr. Alfred Aguero; Jeffrey P. Barnett, DMD,P.C.; Farrey Family Dentistry; Timothy B. Fagan D.M.D., Dr. Shane Wood-South Georgia Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, P.C.; Dr. Johnny Gosier-North Florida South Georgia Endodontics, Inc.; Smile Doctors; and Dr. David W. Howington.

On Saturday, October 12th from 10 AM until 4 PM the grounds of the Colquitt County Arts Center will be filled with music, dance, crafts, fine art, food, children’s and adult art projects and so much more!

We have performing artists scheduled including the Good Life Drum Circle; Electric Violinist Eddy Fabrizio; Guitarist, John Neely; The Family Village of Aya African Drum and Dance and a Tai Chi demonstration with Li Zhang. More fabulous performing artists are pending!!

The Moultrie Service League is assisting us with children’s activities which will include alcohol art tiles, marble painting and a seasonal project or two. Adults and students 16 & up will have the opportunity to participate in an Open Studio for All opportunity. Two sessions will be offered from 10 AM until Noon and from Noon until 2 PM. All supplies are provided for you to create your own work of art and all skill levels are encouraged to participate. Open Studio for All is made possible by a grant from the Georgia Council on Developmental Disabilities.

Food vendors are beginning to register and we expect a variety of arts and crafts from members of the community and beyond. The fee for Arts & Crafts and Food Vendors is $20 with the vendor retaining all proceeds from sales. Food vendors must have a Safeserv certificate and insurance.

Of course, all of this activity requires volunteer support. If you would be available to help at a children’s art station or other activity over the course of the event please take a minute and go to our website www.colquittcountyarts.com to sign up.

The festivities continue that evening at Ashburn Hill Plantation as the Arts Center brings you PEACE of Woodstock. This Woodstock music cover band is going to rock the night!! Bring your lawn chairs or blankets and enjoy the music under the stars. Tickets are $30 person or $45 for VIP seating with a few perks. There will be food trucks and a cash bar so no outside food or drinks will be allowed. The CCHS Jazz Band will entertain from 7 PM until Woodstock takes the stage at 8 PM.

Tickets are available now at the Arts Center or through Eventbrite. Grab your friends and enjoy the day and bring your lawn chairs and blankets and enjoy the evening.

Thank you in advance for your continued support of the arts!
