GCDD is Hiring a Media Relations Director
The Georgia Council on Developmental Disabilities is hiring a Media Relations Director. The Media Relations Director plans, develops, and implements marketing, media relations, and other communications projects and/or agency and program campaigns for the Georgia Council on Developmental Disabilities (GCDD). Acting as Managing Editor, works with contractor on publications designed to inform different stakeholders about issues important to people with developmental disabilities and their families. Writes and designs media releases, speeches, print, and web-based communications to shape public perception of the agency and to increase awareness of its work and goals. Must cultivate relationships with press offices, journalists, bloggers, and opinion leaders. May act as spokesperson for variety of media inquiries. Assists in preparing senior leadership for press conferences, media interviews, and speeches. Positions agency for media success by implementing protocols for internal crisis communications and leveraging opportunities for rapid response. Collaborates on communications strategy across organization. Provides assistance to the Executive Director on a variety of special assignments and tasks. May supervise support personnel.
Minimum Qualifications:
Completion of an undergraduate major in public relations, journalism, communications, English, business or a related field from an accredited college or university and two years of experience in working with the media, organizing press conferences and media campaigns, and/or producing publications.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in working with coalitions to develop media relation’s campaigns and press conferences. Strong written and oral communication skills that are necessary to meet with various media and policy-making officials. Preference will be given to applicants, who in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, have a significant experience with people with developmental disabilities, families, policymakers, and advocacy groups.
